ABOUT US

"It takes COURAGE to attend an HBCU thousands of miles away from home."

HBCUs are known for being a center of empowerment for Black students, and attending one is the opportunity of a lifetime. Statistically, HBCUs only comprise 3% of America’s colleges and universities, yet, they enroll 10% of the nation’s Black graduates. Although the average cost of attendance to attend an HBCU is 28% LESS than attending a Predominantly White Institution (PWI), the fact remains: college is expensive.

Financial barriers, whether it be tuition or traveling costs, should not stop students from attending the nation’s centers of Black excellence. The HBCU Courage Scholarship is founded with the intention of funding costs that Northern pre-college students and their families often do not think about: flights, shipping, transportation, hotel, and rental car costs. Any dollar amount helps, and HBCU accessibility is more important now than ever.
